For the sixth consecutive year, several Sioux Falls organizations are partnering to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in the National Day of Service on Monday, January 15. Feminine product donations will be collected on behalf of The Banquet, at a fundraising event open to the public from 4 until 7pm at Prairie Berry East Bank in downtown Sioux Falls.

The group is specifically collecting maxi pads, tampons and liners to add to The Banquet’s inventory of toiletries and products.

In 2017, over 23,000 individually wrapped items were collected and were the primary supply in The Banquet’s pantry for the entire year.

“The women who receive these feminine hygiene products are extremely grateful. Working people who struggle to put food on the table go without these basic necessities. It’s not uncommon for mothers and daughters to ask for pads and tampons during dinner at The Banquet. Men ask for their wives and girlfriends who had to stay at home because they couldn’t leave the house. This gift is improving the lives of women in Sioux Falls,” said Madeline Shields of The Banquet.

New this year: Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each for a chance to win 1 of 10 mini prints of local artist Shaine Schroeder’s mural "Confetti";. Raffle ticket holders must be present to win, and can only win once. All proceeds will be used to purchase additional product.

The evening’s schedule of events is as follows:
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. – Social Hour
5:30 – 5:35 p.m. – Opening remarks from Katrina Lehr-McKinney, All Saints Neighborhood & Day of Service Event Co-chair
5:35 – 5:50 p.m. – Remarks from supporting organizations
5:50 – 6:00 p.m. – Madeline Shields, The Banquet
6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Social Hour

Prairie Berry East Bank will also host Craft Beer & Bingo on Saturday, January 13 from 4 until 6 pm, with freewill donations to purchase additional supplies for The Banquet. Fundraiser organizers will serve as guest bingo callers.

2018 partnering organizations include: Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc., Fresh Produce, Sioux Falls Up & Coming, Sioux Empire Rock-a-Bettys, Prairie Berry East Bank, Sioux Falls Roller Dollz and new this year – LEAD South Dakota. In the past five years, the collective group has donated over 70,600 individually wrapped items to The Banquet.
