Downtown Street Closures due to Copper Lounge Collapse

Monday, December 5, 2016

The street closures downtown will affect daily commutes, especially those traveling to downtown from the east, potentially through this week or longer. However, in an effort to provide as much access as possible, some stretches of the street closures have reopened. Phillips Avenue is now open between 11th Street and 10th Street. 10th Street is now open between Phillips Avenue and Main Avenue. Therefore, a lefthand turn from Phillips Avenue onto westbound 10th Street is now possible.

Sidewalks are open all along the west side of Phillips Avenue and the south side of 10th Street.

10th Street remains closed from 2nd Avenue to Phillips Avenue. Phillips Avenue remains closed from 9th Street to 10th Street. These street closures are necessary for public safety until the remaining at-risk structure can be safely removed.

“Thank you for your patience. While these road closures certainly are not convenient, our first priority is to keep our residents and visitors safe. We are doing everything we can to expedite the work needed to occur before the roads can reopen, and we will keep the public up to date,” says Chad Huwe, City Engineer.

Additional information to note:
If traveling through downtown from the east, please use 8th Street or 14th Street.
Access will be maintained from 10th Street to the lower level of the 1st Avenue public parking ramp only.
Use River Road to access the Mall Avenue public parking surface lot.
Sioux Area Metro buses are running from the downtown depot.

Most stores are open downtown and the public is encouraged to come down and support the small businesses. CLICK HERE for a detailed Phillips Avenue parking map.

Please stay tuned for more updates as they come in, and please be safe.
