DTSF wins 2012 International Downtown Association Award for Destination Downtown Riverfront Program

Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. named recipient of a 2012 Downtown Merit Award by the International Downtown Association for Destination Downtown Riverfront program.

(Minneapolis, MN. September 24, 2012) During its most recent annual conference the International Downtown Association recognized Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. (DTSF) with a Downtown Merit Award for its work and initiatives related to the Destination Downtown Riverfront program.

The Destination Downtown Riverfront program was created to bring people back into a neglected downtown area by providing over 30 free events and activities that were designed to involve, educate and entertain community and visitors. Destination Downtown Riverfront was among 15 qualified entries in the category of Events and Programming. Submitted projects and initiatives in this category come from those organizations working to further their city centers by completing the following:

  • Focusing on programs and events that improve the image and vitality of downtown with events that promote downtown and attract visitors.
  • Delivering projects that communicate the vision, mission, function, and achievements of the downtown or business district association.

“We are honored to receive this international recognition.” said Jason Dennison, President of Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. “This award acknowledges the dynamic partnerships that are created by DTSF to leverage resources and achieve our vision for downtown. We share this award with all those who have supported our efforts and those who have worked to reclaim the river as a valued community asset. It is a direct reflection of the cooperative spirit of our city."
