heART of the City

heART of the City is an annual found-object art show featuring 2D, 3D, and wearable art created by local emerging and professional artists of all ages. Creative teams and individual artists turn found-objects into artwork and describe how that artwork connects to our show’s theme: Love.

We invite you to walk around and explore the many artistic creations on display. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to read brief descriptions from the artists that connects their artwork to our show’s theme of love. We will even ask you to vote for your favorite piece in the gallery.

Around 6:30PM we will turn up the energy a little as wearable creations take to the runway during the fashion show. After each piece is highlighted, you’ll again get a chance to vote for your favorite!

Following the fashion, help us celebrate our artists as we recognize this year’s winners of the People’s Choice and Best in Show awards.

Art Jurors, Erik Ritter and Sara Larson will again guide us through the evening with helpful commentary that empowers us to better appreciate this year’s artists and their work.

You will also benefit from this year’s Invited Artists Laura Gilbertson and Steve Bormes who will spend the show showing their work and explaining their process.

heART of the City is organized by The Little Stone Church, BronzeAge Art Casting, Whittier Middle School, and the Sioux Falls Arts Council. It is part of an ongoing effort to uplift and support teachers, staff, and students through Love Your Neighbor—Whittier Middle School.

This is a free event! Should you want to join our efforts to provide snacks for Whittier Middle School and its many students, we will be grateful to accept donations of individually-packaged snacks at the door (this is optional). Should anyone wish to donate money instead, information for how to do so can be found at the center table. If you are interested, feel free to ask us about what we do and how to partner with us.

It’s the perfect excuse to get out of the house: Find delight as you immerse yourself in a creative space; Find inspiration as you encounter the unexpected; Find joy as you celebrate and encourage artists from around our community! We can’t wait to see you for this special fun-filled one-night found-object exhibition!
